It has been a wonderfully busy month at CTHS! We have completed our eighth grade recruiting visits with over 4,000 Pasadena ISD eighth grade students having visited our campus. Those students received a tour led by one of our CTHS student ambassadors and a presentation from our counseling staff about the outstanding programs and online application process. We also held our Parent Preview Night for eighth grade parents and students to tour our campus, receive application information, and meet our pathway teachers and students. We have already received over seven hundred applications for next year with more submitted each day. The online application is open until January 8, 2018 and is available at www.cthsweb.com.
We also celebrated the academic success of our students at CTHS. Students, parents, and staff gathered for our annual Academic Excellence Awards program where 148 students received recognition for meeting the district’s criteria for the academic excellence awards. Some of our students have earned this award for multiple years while in high school and have earned a CTHS letter jacket for their outstanding academic achievement.
We also recognized the academic success of almost 150 of our students at our annual Advanced Placement Awards Breakfast. Students, parents and staff, along with PISD central office administration and PISD Board of Trustees members gathered to honor these students. Students who earned a qualifying score on a College Board Advanced Placement examination each received a check from our PISD Board of Trustees for $100. Many students received checks for several hundred dollars after demonstrating outstanding scores on multiple rigorous, college level examinations.
We continue to have outstanding support from our community and business partners for the programs at CTHS. LyondellBasell graciously donated $9,000 to our welding program to support students, purchase equipment and materials, and provide training opportunities. The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is supporting our culinary arts program through its annual Taste of the Town Event. Proceeds from this event will be used to purchase a catering vehicle for use by culinary arts programs in our district.
We also celebrated our long time partnership with Monument Chevrolet. Monument Chevrolet graciously donated $25,000 to support our automotive technology and collision programs. This incredibly generous donation will be used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, tools for students, and provide training and competitive opportunities for our students. Monument Chevrolet continues to provide internships for students and generous financial support for our programs.
