We have some very exciting news to share this month! At the September, 2018 Board meeting, the Pasadena Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the Dr. Kirk Lewis Career and Technical High School to become a campus of accountability. This means that students graduating from CTHS will now receive their diploma and official transcripts from CTHS. This will also allow CTHS students opportunities for scholarships and competitions that have previously been unavailable. CTHS students will also receive class rankings based on their grade point averages with other students at CTHS. This will allow CTHS students to receive academic recognitions such as valedictorian and salutatorian, top ten Shining Stars, and other academic recognitions. We are very proud of this designation and honored at the trust and confidence placed in our students, staff and campus by our Board of Trustees and our district administration.

October is a very busy month at CTHS as we begin our recruiting for the incoming freshman Class of 2023! All current PISD eighth grade students will come to CTHS in October to receive a student-led tour and presentation about the pathways and opportunities at our campus. On Thursday, November 1 from 5:30-7:00 p.m., we will open our campus to all eighth grade students and their parents for our Pathway Open House. We encourage eighth graders and their parents to come and tour our campus, meet our pathway instructors, and learn about the many opportunities offered at CTHS. Our online application is now available at www.CTHSweb.com. Apply now, as space is limited.

Students will have two holidays on October 8 and 9as we have staff development for our teachers on those days. October 10th is a very important day at CTHS. We will be administering the PSAT examination to all ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade students and the SAT examination to all seniors. The PSAT is an important scholarship examination for students and the SAT is a key component of student college and university admissions. Please encourage your student to be present and give their best!

We will be celebrating the success of our Advanced Placement (AP) students on Thursday morning, October 18 with our annual AP Celebration Breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Almost one-hundred CTHS students will be receiving checks from the PISD Board of Trustees in recognition of qualifying scores on AP exams from last year. We will also be inducting over 40 new members to the CTHS chapter of the National Honor Society on Thursday evening, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. in our lobby.

The annual CTHS Fall Festival will take place on Friday evening, October 26 from 5:30-9:00 p.m. CTHS students may purchase tickets for $5.00. All tickets must be purchased in advance. Games, booths, prizes, food, and a fall dance will all be available on that evening.

Information concerning parent and student access to the districts new Skyward system is being sent home on Friday, October 5. We appreciate your continued patience and support as we transition to this new system. Thank you for all that you do to support and encourage your student to succeed at CTHS!
