It is hard to believe that another school year has almost ended. This has been a year of excitement and challenge and we appreciate your continued support. May is the busiest month of the year on campus and we have a number of exciting things happening.

On Friday, May 3, we will host our annual Senior Decision Day Fair to celebrate all of our seniors who have applied and been accepted to a college, university or the military. We will have food, fun, and activities all organized by our College Now Coordinator Tammy Gernander.

May 6-8 are very important days for our campus. On Monday, May 6, our freshman students will be taking the STAAR Biology exam. On Wednesday, May 8, our freshman take the STAAR Algebra I exam and our juniors take the STAAR U. S. History exam. Successful completion of all of these exams are required for graduation. Please encourage your students to get plenty of rest and come prepared to do their very best on these exams.

The second and third weeks of May also bring Advanced Placement examinations. Hundreds of students across our campus will be taking Advanced Placement examinations in the coming days as the culmination of rigorous coursework to earn a qualifying score on these College Board examinations. Our students are well prepared and we look forward to celebrating great success with them.

We will also be recognizing the outstanding staff at CTHS as May 6-10 is teacher appreciation week. We are blessed to have a talented, caring and committed teaching and support staff at CTHS. I know you join with me in recognizing them for their continued efforts. May 8 is also National School Nurse Day and we will recognize our campus nurse Kathy Ashworth for all of her efforts to keep our students and staff healthy and well.

The Senior Class of 2019 will take their panoramic picture on Wednesday morning, May 15. Students will need their graduation robe for this memorable picture. We will be host our annual Senior Awards on Thursday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Phillips Central Gymnasium. We hope you will join us for this evening of recognition and celebration. Seniors will also participate in graduation practice on Friday morning, May 17. We will bus students to and from CTHS for this important practice session.

We will be collecting student tablets on May 20 for grades 11 and 12 and on May 21 for grades 9 and 10. Please encourage your student to locate their tablet, case and charger for return on those dates.

Senior take final exams on May 21-23 and underclassmen on May 24, 28-29. School is closed on Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day. The last day of school for students in on Wednesday, May 28 with early dismissal for underclassmen at 11:30 a.m. Seniors will have their final senior breakfast, video, and walk of honor that morning and will board buses to NRG at Noon. Our graduation ceremony begins at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 29 at NRG stadium. All seniors are required to ride the bus to graduation and may arrange their own transportation home with family or friends or ride the bus back to CTHS. Thank you for an outstanding year. We appreciate your continued support and wish you a wonderful, relaxing and restful summer!
