December 2017

It is difficult to believe that we have almost reached the end of 2017 and the close of our first semester.  The holidays are approaching and everyone is busy decorating and preparing to enjoy time with friends and family.  It is another busy month at CTHS as well.

Our engineering and robotics students are working long hours and late evenings to build a float for the City of Pasadena’s Lighted Parade on December 2 and wrapping, stacking, and building their display of over 4,000 canned goods for the City of Pasadena’s annual Can-Do food drive.  Their work will be on display at the Pasadena City Hall during December if you have time to stop in and see their work.

December also provides another opportunity for students to demonstrate mastery on the state required STAAR examinations.  Students who are yet to complete successfully will be retesting during the week of December 4-8.  Our teachers and specialists are providing specific tutorial opportunities for these students to enhance their knowledge and their testing experience.

Our Child Guidance pathway will be hosting their annual Polar Express Night on Tuesday, December 5 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Snow, waffles, Christmas treats, and pictures with Santa will be available.  All tickets must be prepaid by Friday, December 1 and are available at the Child Guidance office.

On Saturday, December 9, we will be hosting the Pasadena ISD VEX Robotics Tournament.  Teams from across our district will be competing in a variety of robotics contests and events.  We look forward to an exciting day of competition and celebration.

Final examinations for the semester begin on Wednesday, December 20 through Friday, December 22.  Students will have two examinations on both Wednesday and Thursday and finish on Friday morning with three exams.  Both Wednesday and Thursday are full school days.  On Friday, students will be released at 11:30 a.m.  Please encourage and support your student to study and prepare for their exams, rest their bodies and minds, and come to school on those days prepared to do their very best.  Please do not schedule appointments or early travel plans that would cause students to miss this important examination days at the end of the semester.

Students will return from the Christmas and New Year holidays on January 9, 2018.  The construction on our new classroom addition is progressing rapidly and we anticipate moving into those new rooms during the early part of January 2018.

From all of us at CTHS, we wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year in 2018.

Merry Christmas 2
