Happy New Year and welcome back! We are looking forward to an exciting second semester at CTHS and here are some of the great things that will be happening in January on our campus.

Students return to class on Wednesday, January 8 and will receive their second semester schedule and their first semester report card. If a student was absent from a final exam before the break, students must arrange a time outside of class to make up their exam and have those exams completed by Wednesday, January 15.

We are hosting a small delegation of students and teachers from our sister city of Hadano, Japan on Thursday, January 9. This will be the third time we have hosted a group from Hadano and we are looking forward to meeting them and sharing our campus with them.

Senior students in our Maritime, Criminal Justice, Child Guidance, Cosmetology, and Culinary Arts pathways will depart on January 16 and return on January 20 from a Carnival Cruise from Galveston where students and staff will participate in job shadowing and hands-on learning experiences.

Students will have a holiday on Monday, January 20 while our staff members attend professional development sessions.

We will have extended day sessions for students who need to attend tutorials on Wednesday, January 15 and Wednesday, January 29 from 2:45 – 4:15 p.m. Extended day bus routes are available for students who choose to stay and participate in tutorials or club meetings on those afternoons.

January 22 is a very important day for students at CTHS. Students in English 1 and English 2 will be taking their practice STAAR exams, while students in English 3 and English 4 will be working on practice for their TSI assessment. Students in AP English 3 and AP English 4 will also be taking practice exams. Our teachers use the data from these assessments to focus student instruction on areas of improvement prior to the state exams later this spring.

Applications for incoming students for 2020-21 have closed and our pathway teachers are conducting interviews and reviewing application data. Students will be notified of their selection status via personalized letters sent to them at their current campus during the second week of February.

Our official campus report card from the 2018-19 school year has been posted to our campus website. If you would like to review our accountability report, please visit our website at www.cthsweb.com.

We appreciate your continued support for all of our students, staff and programs at CTHS!
