May 2018

It is hard to believe that another school year has almost ended.  This has been a year of excitement and challenge and we appreciate your continued support.  May is the busiest month of the year on campus and we have a number of exciting things happening.

Earlier this week, we hosted our Welcome Class of 2022 Nights for our incoming freshman and their parents.  Over 350 families came to visit our campus, meet their pathway instructors, and tour CTHS.  We are excited about our incoming freshman and look forward to working with them and their families.

This Friday, May 4, we will host our annual Senior Decision Day Fair to celebrate all of our seniors who have applied and been accepted to a college, university or the military.  We will have food, fun, games, and activities all presented by our College Now staff and organized by our senior counselor Mrs. Lippe.

Next week is a very important week for our students and our campus.  On Tuesday, May 8, our freshman students will be taking the STAAR Algebra I exam.  On Wednesday, May 9, our freshman will be taking the STAAR Biology exam and our juniors will be taking the STAAR U. S. History exam.  Successful completion of all of these exams are required for graduation.  Please encourage your students to get plenty of rest and come prepared to do their very best on these exams.

Next week also begins two weeks of Advanced Placement examinations.  Hundreds of students across our campus will be taking Advanced Placement examinations in the coming days as the culmination of a long year of rigorous coursework in hopes of earning a qualifying score on these College Board examinations.  Our students are well prepared and we look forward to celebrating great success with them.

Next week is also a time for us to recognize the outstanding staff at CTHS as May 7-11 is teacher appreciation week.  We are blessed to have a talented, caring and committed teaching and support staff at CTHS.  I know you join with me in recognizing them for their continued efforts.  Next week is also Child Nutrition week and we will celebrate all of our child nutrition staff who work diligently every day to prepare and serve breakfast to over 800 students and lunch to over 1000 students each day.  We appreciate our child nutrition manager Mrs. Trevino and her staff for all of their efforts.

We will be collecting student tablets on May 22 and 23.  Please encourage your student to locate their tablet, case and charger for return on those dates.  We will be hosting our annual Senior Awards on Thursday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Phillips Central Gymnasium.  We hope you will join us for this evening of recognition and celebration.

Senior final exams will be given on May 22-24 and underclassmen will take final exams on May 25, 29-30.  School will be closed on Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day.  Graduation will take place at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 30 at NRG stadium.  All seniors are required to ride the bus to graduation and may arrange their own transportation home with family or friends or ride the bus back to CTHS.  Thank you for an outstanding year.  We appreciate your continued support and wish you a wonderful, relaxing, and restful summer!
