September 2017

This has certainly been an incredible beginning to our 17-18 school year.  After only four days of school, we all experienced the events associated with hurricane Harvey.  We have staff and students directly impacted by the flooding, with some losing homes and vehicles along with treasured family items, furniture, clothing and other valuable personal materials.  Many of our staff and students have volunteered, worked, and assisted others during these difficult and tragic days.  As we restart our school year, we are working to meet the needs of students and staff and assist them as we all return to a more normal routine.

We will be issuing tablets to all students beginning on Wednesday, September 13.  Students should begin working on assignments on their tablets and bring their tablets to school each day.  Our Connect program has expanded this year with students in both the ninth and tenth grades.  We are excited as we continue to watch the growth of personalized learning and project-based learning in this program.

Strawbridge Photographers will be at CTHS on Friday, September 15 to take student and staff photographs for our yearbook.  Students will receive packets in homeroom on Wednesday, September 13 if they choose to order and purchase their school pictures.  There is no cost to students to have their picture made for inclusion in the 17-18 CTHS yearbook.

The district has adjusted the curriculum timelines for all subject areas due to the hurricane.  As a result, we will not be sending home progress reports at the end of this week.  Our first formal grading communication to parents will come with the six weeks report card sent home during the week of September 27.

We are looking forward to our Open House scheduled on Tuesday, October 3 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.  Parents and students will have an opportunity to meet and greet teachers, walk our beautiful campus, and receive financial aid information.  We hope you will plan on attending and meeting your student’s teachers on that evening.

Our construction continues to progress with the first and second floors poured, the lightweight concrete poured on the roof, and many artisans working to complete air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing tasks.  We are still hopeful that the new sixteen-classroom wing will be ready for occupancy by January 2018.

We appreciate your continued support and encouragement.  Thank you for encouraging your student to choose CTHS and for supporting their efforts to prepare themselves and take advantage of the tremendous opportunities offered through our pathways and programs.  We look forward to seeing you at Open House on October 3.
