It is hard to believe that we are already in December! The fall semester of 2019 has gone by so quickly.

We have had a great semester and are looking forward to a wonderful Christmas month. Here are some of the highlights that will be happening in December at CTHS.

Our Academic Decathlon team will be competing in the district event on Thursday and Friday, December 5 and 6. We look forward to great results and medals for our students and team from this competition. Our Child Guidance pathway will be hosting their annual Polar Express night on Thursday, December 5. Tickets must be pre-ordered through our Child Guidance pathway. Our Team 231 Robotics students will be competing in the PISD VEX high school tournament on Saturday, December 7 at CTHS. Please come out and support our students.

We will be administering the STAAR examinations for students who have not yet successfully completed these graduation requirements. STAAR English 1 on Tuesday, December 10, STAAR U.S. History and Biology on Wednesday, December 11, and STAAR English 2 and Algebra on Thursday, December 12. Our teachers and instructional coaches have been working very hard along with students to prepare them for these important exams.

We will have Extended Day on Wednesday, December 11 with tutorials and make-up time sessions for students. If a student owes make-up time due to excessive absences, they must complete their make-up time by Friday, December 13 in order to avoid losing credit in their courses.

Our engineering pathway students are participating in the annual Canstruction Contest again this year. Our students are working on an incredible display of canned food items in a Christmas-themed display at the City Hall in Pasadena. If you have an opportunity, please stop by and see their display.

We will begin end of semester final examinations for all students on Wednesday, December 18. Students will take exams in periods 3 and 7 on Wednesday, December 19, in periods 5 and 6 on Thursday, December 21, and in periods 1, 2 and 3 on Friday, December 20. Students who are absent from final exams will receive a grade of zero and must make up their exam by Wednesday, January 15.

We would also like your input on our campus so that we can improve our service to your student and family. We are asking parents to share their opinions in a parent engagement survey. The survey is available in English or Spanish and can be completed online. We would appreciate your response before Thursday, December 19.

The link to the English survey is https://www.research.net/r/s19engTest and the link to the Spanish survey is https://es.research.net/r/s19spTest .

We appreciate your continued support of our campus and our staff. From all of us at CTHS, we wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a joyful New Year! We will see you back at CTHS in 2020!
